MONTGOMERY, Ala -- Nico Collins knows what people think. He’s aware that the prevailing thought is that Michigan leads for his commitment. It’s just that he isn’t feeding into it. According to him, he never has.

Collins shrugs the idea off and offers his own take. He should get to weigh in on his own recruitment, after all.

“Yeah, I know that’s what people think, but there’s no leader,” Collins said during registration at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. “I don’t have a leader.”

And so the four-star wide receiver will push forward. Next for Collins is an official visit to Florida State, which will take place on Jan. 13. According to the standout wide receiver, it’s a visit from which he’s hoping to learn.

“I don’t know that much about them really,” Collins said. “I know some of the wide receivers from there. I know all about Kelvin Benjamin.

“I was supposed to go when they played Florida, but it didn’t work.”

From there, Collins’ recruitment will steamroll. Crunch time begins when he hits Tallahassee. While he’s set no decision date, he’s kicking around idea on that front. The finish line may not be set, but he has one in mind.

“I’m thinking February – maybe Feb. 1,” Collins said. “For sure, sometime before signing day. I think maybe the first.”

IN HIS WORDS: “It was good,” Collins said of a recent LSU visit. “It was pretty much a good time. The coaches and the players at the atmosphere all stood out.”

RIVALS REACTION: Who knows? Michigan landing the commitment of five-star receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones may impact Collins. Then again, it may not. The Wolverines have just two wide receivers in 2017 class, so there is certainly room at the inn. Florida State and LSU remain heavily involved.
