Colleges begin to look at Virginia WR

Norfolk (Va.) Princess Anne wide receiver Rudy Rayner is beginning to garner interest from colleges. The 6-foot-0, 156-pounder is getting looks from the ACC, Big East and Big Ten among others.
"I've been receiving letters from Virginia Tech, Purdue, North Carolina and Syracuse," he said. "Purdue has even talked about going up there for a visit this spring. They are all asking for me to send highlight tapes too."

Is there an early favorite?
"I'm really favoring North Carolina at the moment. They have a good academic program and I went and saw the campus when I was in eighth grade. It's a pretty nice school."
Rayner will obviously look around. What does he want in a college?
"I'm really just looking for strong academics and somewhere I can play. I want a good family-oriented environment with nice coaches."
Rayner had a big year for a struggling 1-9 Princess Anne team.
"It was a young team and we had a new coach and have to rebuild," he said. "I didn't do bad. I did my best on defense and special teams. I had 300-yards receiving, 500-yards in returns and 30 tackles. I think my hard work and route running stick out, but I've got to improve my strength and speed more."
