Coleman closer to naming finalists

Three-star running back Tevin Coleman had to wait until May to receive his first scholarship offer, but the Oak Forest (Ill.) has since added a dozen more to his total and is preparing to narrow his list to a final three or four schools.
The 6-1, 190-pound Coleman holds offers from the likes of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Purdue, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Syracuse. All are still under consideration, but that will change shortly.

"Those are still in the mix, but I am probably going to take a few teams out of it," Coleman said. "I don't have my top list in place yet, but probably in a couple of weeks I'll have it."
As Coleman pores through his list of scholarship offers, a couple factors will determine which teams make the cut and which are left out.
"One thing is academics and whether I will be able to go to the next level in academics," he said. "Then, the depth chart at my position and how early I am going to play."
Coleman does not expect to make his final decision until close to Signing Day. Official visits will be part of his evaluation process, and he also has plans to catch several college games this fall.
"I don't have any set up yet, but I'll try to go to a couple of the close ones like Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan State," Coleman said.
Of those schools he expects to see this fall, Coleman has already made visits to Illinois, Indiana and Michigan State. Coleman has not yet visited Iowa, but has heard about the welcome visiting teams receive in Iowa City.
"When I get up there, I want to see the pink locker rooms," Coleman said. "I'm curious about how that looks.
"I've always liked Iowa. They are a good school and have a good program. We message on Facebook sometimes. They just want to get me out there to see the facilities."
Oak Forest opens their season at home against Chicago Urban Prep on Aug. 26.
