Saginaw (Mich.) Heritage's Brian Cole was presented with his Under Armour All-America Game jersey in front of his fellow seniors, his family, his coaches, and his teammates on Wednesday afternoon in his high school's theater.
Cole is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan and No. 89 overall. The senior playmaker will play wide receiver for Michigan, where he's been committed since late July. Just before receiving his jersey, it was announced that fellow receivers and NFL stars Julio Jones and A.J. Green also played in the game. Names like that resonated with Cole.
"I just feel really blessed and I feel like a good player," Cole said. "I get to actually compete with really talented guys from around the country. I get to do the things that guys in the NFL, or guys that had crazy careers went through. They went through the same process that I'm going through right now. It's really humbling. I think I can make it now."
On Jan. 2, the top high school players in the country will assemble in St. Petersburg, Fla., to compete against one another in the Under Armour All-America game. The 6-2, 190-pound Cole is excited about the game and the overall experience.
"I can't wait to meet those new players and just see where their talents come from and where they're from and how they act from their angle," Cole said. "I just want to have fun and get to know those guys and of course the game. It's such a big game."
Cole has been a part of Michigan's recruiting class since July 26 and he'll be representing the Wolverines while in Florida for the game. Cole knows that there are a lot of other people he will be representing too.
"It feels good knowing that I get to represent my high school, my family and friends, and Michigan," he said. "I just feel really blessed that my family is going to be there and the game is going to be crazy."
Cole really stands out on the football field, but in person he's just a normal high school senior. He admits that big press conferences and presentations aren't his favorite thing to do, but he doesn't let his nerves get the best of him.
"I don't really like stuff like this that much," Cole admitted. "I just get nervous, I honestly just get nervous. It's more humbling when it's a big stage like this but honestly I just feel nervous."
The four-star athlete is solid in his commitment to Michigan and plans to enroll early. He and his family think it's the best scenario for him to get acclimated to college life academically and athletically.
