Colbert weighing weekend plans

Kansas City (Mo.) Winnetonka 2017 safety Djimon Colbert has made one college visit this season, and could take his second this upcoming weekend.

Colbert attended Nebraska's home opener against BYU earlier this month, and he is considering returning to Lincoln this weekend to see the Cornhuskers host Southern Miss.
However, one other school is in consideration for a visit this weekend. Iowa offered early in Colbert's sophomore year and he has been keeping an eye on the Hawkeyes this season.
"I think I might go up there this weekend," Colbert said of Iowa. "But, I don't know about that. I'll have to check with my parents' work schedule. I watched part of their game when they were playing Iowa State. I didn't catch their game this past weekend, but I heard it was pretty good."
Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas are the three schools that have offered Colbert. The Hawkeyes were the first to offer, though, and have built a strong relationship with the Kansas City defensive back.
"I have been talking to Seth Wallace, their recruiting coordinator. I've also talked to Coach (Kirk) Ferentz a couple times," Colbert said. "That's probably one of the strongest connections I have with any school because I have been familiar with them for about a year now and I have been up there two times. I am pretty familiar with them and what they liked to do."
As the season progresses, Colbert is looking to schedule a weekend to visit the in-state Missouri Tigers.
"I know they want to get me down there," Colbert said. "I think it was Coach (Andy) Hill that wanted me to come down there. They haven't said much and I'm still waiting for them to tell me where they're at with me."
Since the start of September when college coaches were given more avenues to connect with junior prospects, Colbert has seen interest pick up from a few schools.
"I think Arkansas is looking at me," Colbert said. "They are pulling my transcript and if they offer me, I might take a trip down there."
The 6-foot-1, 186-pound Colbert estimated 4-5 pass break ups from his defensive back spot this season and also has added a fumble recovery. On offense he has scored a touchdown via reception and also one on the ground running out of the Wildcat quarterback spot.
