Coffman up to two Big 12 offers

After watching his brothers - Chase and Carson - go through the recruiting process, it's finally Cameron Coffman's turn.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior quarterback from Raymore (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar dominated as a sophomore, looked great at the EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback Camp and is poised to become one of the nation's top targets in the 2011 class.

And like many other top 2011 targets, early scholarship offers have started to roll in.
"K-State has verbally offered," Coffman's father, Paul, said. "Coach Snyder said they were going to honor the scholarship offer coach Prince made when he was there. So that's a good thing to have on the plate."
Just minutes ago Coffman received word that another Big 12 school has joined the Wildcats on the offer list.
"Coach (Tom) Kruse called about 30 minutes ago and said Nebraska called him and said they were officially offering," Coffman said. "They told coach the offer would be in the mail today or tomorrow. Nebraska is a school we've never had much contact with. Most schools send a questionnaire or an invite to their camp, but we hadn't gotten much from them.
"Last year, I tried to get Cam tickets for the Missouri game. But the coaches up there said they didn't given tickets to sophomores. Maybe it was because Cam was Chase's younger brother, but I guess we didn't think they were interested until now."
UCLA, North Carolina and Ole Miss are the other schools showing early interest in Coffman.
"UCLA was the first school to send him a letter," Coffman said. "It was basically a letter saying good luck this season. We visited the campus when we were out there for the Elite 11."
Coffman has helped Ray-Pec to a 1-0 record so far this season. After an opening victory over Truman, Coffman faces a very talented Liberty team in week two. It was this time last year that Coffman torched Liberty for a state record 430 yards passing and three touchdowns in the first half of a 60-41 victory.
"They're going to be gunning for him," Coffman said. "Cam knows that, and he knows he's got a touch challenge ahead."
It's also a big weekend for Coffman's other son, Carson, who was named Tuesday as the starting quarterback at Kansas State.
"Carson has waited a long time for this day," Coffman said. "He'll do well. He's calm and ready to go out there and show everybody what he's got."
