Cocks, Tigers battle for in-state WR

One of the Palmetto State’s top athletes is making the transition between football and basketball and trying to find time to make his official visits.
Beaufort (S.C.) Battery Creek wideout Tremel Kline just wrapped up his senior year on the gridiron, catching 61 passes for 1,156 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s moving on to hoops now, with an eye on a small group of schools for official visits.

“I don’t think he has those set right now,” said Battery Creek coach Andy Smyth. “I had some calls from coaches today wanting to know what he was going to do. I told them it’s pretty tough to catch him because he stays so busy with basketball.
“But I think he’s mainly looking at Carolina and Clemson right now. He made numerous unofficial visits to them this season, and I know he likes them both. North Carolina is still involved – Florida and Tennessee to a lesser extent, too – but I think it will probably end up being one of the in-state schools.”
Kline (6-3, 185, 4.45) also played defensive back this season, recording 35 tackles and two interceptions.
“He was just tremendous,” Smyth said. “He was all over the field for us, making big plays. He’s going to be a great college player.”
Academically, Kline must overcome one final hurdle, according to Smyth. He has a solid core GPA but needs a better score on the SAT he took again last week.
