Coates visits Penn State

Cornerback Marchez Coates of Pomfret (Md.) McDonogh has made it a point this spring to attend as many events as possible to prove to everyone that he is a BCS level player. While he is still waiting for his first offer, interest continues to grow for the talented Maryland cornerback.
"Recruiting has been great," said Coates, 5-foot-11 and 173-pounds. "I just haven't got any offers yet. I'm getting a lot of interest from Penn State, Maryland, Boston College, TCU, Kansas State and Ohio."

Recently, Coates hit the road to get a closer look at Penn State.
"The fanbase is great and the coaches are great," said Coates. "I went into the locker room and talked to some of the players like Mo-Mo [Devin Smith]. I loved it. Penn State is number one on my list right now."
Coates is hoping to attend a few summer camps in the South during the summer, but has not finalized any plans to this point. In the meantime he has been busy proving his abilities at numerous camps. The most recent was the VTO Five-Star Camp in Richmond last weekend.
"I was the MVP of the whole VTO Five-Star Camp," said Coates. "I proved that I am a five-star player and that I can play with five-star players."
Even with his busy camp and travel schedule, Coates has still made it a point to better prepare himself for the 2011 season.
"Off-season training is going great," said Coates. "I'm working everyday to be the best cornerback in the nation."
