Coaches checking on SC DL

Union (S.C.) defensive line prospect Devon Thompson could emerge as a sleeper out of the Palmetto State in the class of 2007.
So far during the evaluation period, multiple coaches have stopped by Union High to check out the 6-foot-2, 275-pounder.

"(South Carolina defensive coordinator) Tyrone Nix came by the school and watched a little film on me," Thompson said. "I'm excited to know that I am on their list of prospects.
"One of the coaches from North Carolina came by, too. We've had a bunch of coaches come by, probably six or seven coaches. I don't know if all of them came by to see me, but they came by."
Thompson likes Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech, along with the Gamecocks and Tar Heels.
"I like most of those schools," he said. "If one of those schools offered me, I may take it. But I'd have to think about it and check it out with my mom and things like that first.
"I grew up a Miami (Fla.) fan, but lately everybody around here has really stepped it up."
Thompson will attend the Clemson NIKE Camp on May 21. He also has more camp plans in mind.
"I'm going to try to go to Clemson's regular camp as well as the NIKE Camp," Thompson said. "South Carolina has a camp I am trying to get to as well and I just got a paper in mail from North Carolina, so I may go up there, too."
Thompson has friends in Clemson, Columbia and Chapel Hill. Rivals.com freshman All-American selection Rashaad Jackson is a former Union High standout, as is South Carolina linebacker Curtis Rice and North Carolina lineman Byron Bishop.
"I know all of those guys real well," Thompson said.
Thompson had 62 tackles (15 for loss) and nine sacks in 2005.
