Clemson to get visit from Florida TE

The Clemson Tigers appear to be in good shape with Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln tight end Craig Gelhardt.
Gelhardt (6-4, 230, 4.7) has tabbed Clemson for his first official visit on Jan. 9.

“I went up there for an unofficial visit and really liked the place,” he said. “It’s a beautiful campus and a nice, small-town environment. It’s a town of something like 16,000 people, but on game day all of the sudden it’s 80,000. That’s really neat. I liked the facilities and the overall athletic department there.
“My top four would be Clemson, Wake Forest, UNC and FSU.”
The Tigers represent Gelhardt’s lone scholarship offer at this point, but he’s receiving steady interest from Florida State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, Tulane and Iowa State.
“The last time Iowa State called, it sounded like they might be ready to offer me,” he said. “I’m just kind of keeping my options open right now and hoping some of the other schools offer.”
Gelhardt has helped lead Lincoln to a 9-2 record and the second round of the playoffs this season. He’s graded out at 85 percent on his blocking assignments and caught five passes for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Academically, he maintains a 3.3 GPA and has scored a 1010 on the SAT.
