Clemson leads for Georgia WR

Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake wide receiver Emmanuel Spann has narrowed his focus down to a handful of schools and named a leader.
“Clemson, Louisville, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Duke and Tennessee State are the main ones,” he said. “Some other ones are showing interest, too, but not as much as those or not where I feel like I could go in and make a big difference.

“Right now, Clemson is the school that I’m really thinking about. I went there for the Florida State game and had a real good time. They had a good football atmosphere and I liked the coaches and players a lot. I liked how the players stepped up in that game. The education factor also looked good. We got to talk to some of their players on the team who have already graduated. That was impressive.
“Another thing I like about them is the ACC having Miami and Virginia Tech move into the conference. That’s a lot more competition and exposure for Clemson. I want to compete against the best players.”
Anyone running a close second to the Tigers at this point?
“Probably Louisville,” Spann said. “I was going to go up there this weekend, but I couldn’t find an early enough flight. I’ll probably go check them out on an official visit now. They have a good team and they like to get their wide receivers involved with the offense. I want to play in a wide-open offense, not somewhere that they run the ball every down.”
Spann said he’ll schedule his official visits when the season is over. Westlake enters the playoffs this week with an 8-2 record. Spann has been a big part of their success, recording 1,028 yards receiving and 21 total touchdowns (17 receiving, three special teams, one rushing).
Academically, he carries a 3.1 GPA and has an 820 on the SAT. He projects as a qualifier with those figures, but says he’ll take the SAT and ACT again in hopes of scoring higher.
