Clay Webb surprisingly announced his commitment Monday morning at a ceremony inside the Oxford auditorium. If you know Webb, then you think he'd commit to a school without ever announcing his decision, but he did publicly commit to the Georgia Bulldogs.

The five-star offensive lineman out of Alabama chose UGA over the Crimson Tide, Auburn and Clemson. He is a mauler between the lines, but off the field, he is as quiet as they come.

We caught up with his head coach, Ryan Herring, and he feels Webb is the type of talent he may never get to coach again.

WEBB HAD EYES ON HIM EARLY

"When Clay was in middle school, he looked like someone's daddy out there playing against children," said Herring. "We really thought he could be really good due to his size at a young age if he developed at the right speed. As he got older, he filled out in the weight room, and he is got stronger and better.

"He is a true specimen now. How many offensive linemen can take their shirts off and look good? Clay can do that.

"When we saw him in middle school, we knew he had a real chance. His attitude and how he has worked has made him one of the best in the country now."

FLIPPING THE SWITCH

"Coaches really want guys like Clay. They want kids who can do the right thing off the field, then cross the line on the grass, tear people's head off. That is who he is. He is quiet. He does all the right things off the field. Then he goes out to destroy people when he crosses that line.

"He is the best man-on-man blocker in the country. I have had several big-time college coaches in the country say that there is nobody better out there when talking blocking man on man. To hear that from so many, it validates how good Clay is as an inside blocker."

WEBB CAN DO IT ALL

"When his pads are on, he is as aggressive as they come. That is a strength, but also how he stays on blocks. He is great at that too.

"We aren't a big vertical set pass protection team, so you won't see a lot of that on film. In camps though, he was able to show that.

"A lot of coaches talk about his feet. How he moves and sets. He has a crazy mixture of length, feet, strength and he is a do-it-all offensive lineman. Clay is able to run block, he can pass block and he is just a crazy mixture of what college coaches really want.

"Even though he is not 6-feet 6-inches tall, he can play tackle. Many might not know that, but with his feet, he can play anywhere across the offensive line."

IRREPLACABLE

"Clay just treats people right. That is the best way to describe him. He does a lot with the special needs kids at the high school, he treats everyone the same and he is not one that gets in trouble.

"He is respectful. He knows how to act. He just does things the right way.

"We will never be able to replace Clay on or off the field. He is a once in a lifetime kid for most coaches. From how he plays to how he acts; there are none better."
