Cincinnati scores local star

Cincinnati didn't have to go far to get its first commitment for the class of 2008. The Bearcats picked up a pledge from Cincinnati Colerain offensive lineman Evan Davis on Wednesday morning.
Davis, who is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, recently picked up the offer from new Bearcat assistant Kerry Coombs, the former coach at Colerain, and it was an offer he didn't take long to accept.

Colerain coach Tom Bolden confirmed the pledge on Thursday morning. Davis was also offered by Bowling Green, but the opportunity to play close to home, for his former high school coach and for a program on the rise in Big East was too much to pass up.
"Cincinnati is in the Big East, and I've always wanted to play bigger football," Davis said. "It's bigger than the MAC, and there are probably more opportunities for me there."
Davis' brother, Nick Davis, started on the defensive line at Bowling Green this past season.
