One of the names to know as spring moves forward in Texas is Richmond-Foster cornerback Christian Young.
Young picked up his first Power Five offer from Arizona on the eve of his appearance in the Rivals Three Stripe Camp presented by Adidas in New Orleans last Sunday. He also has a trio of other offers in-hand and is hearing more and more from coaching staffs trying to get an up-close look at him.
“Coaches have been hitting me up, telling me to come to spring games, junior days, things like that,” he said. “They’re all trying to get a look at me, see my size and stuff.”
Young’s size is an obvious attraction for the programs involved in his recruitment, but he showed in New Orleans and in recent 7-on-7 performances that his coverage skills have shown what makes him a complete prospect. The Wildcats are strong contenders with him for the time being, but he also said that he has a strong connection with Nevada for the time being.
IN HIS WORDS
On Arizona
“I was talking to the director of player personnel, Chris (Singletary), and he was hitting me and my coach up,” he said. “He said they wanted to give me a scholarship offer and Arizona is a pretty nice one. I’m thinking about taking a couple of trips out there now.”
“They said they like my size and the way I can cover,” he said. “They think I can play a lot of positions like nickel, strong safety, cornerback, just be versatile for them – maybe punt return, kick return, things like that.”
On Nevada
“I’m open to anything, but I really like Nevada and Arizona,” he said. “I like Nevada a lot, Coach (Courtney) Viney is really cool.”
On Louisiana-Monroe, where friend Perry Carter is a 2017 signee
“He said the coaches are very friendly,” he said. “He said they’re open to anything, the players are real cool and ULM is a great place to play.”
RIVALS REACTION
Young said that he would like to visit Nevada on April 29 for the Wolfpack’s spring game. He also said that he would like to make a trip to Arizona sometime in April. Now that the Wildcats have come through with an offer, he expects that Colorado State and UConn could be close to following suit.
His size and ability are legitimate attributes, and despite 2017 Rivals100 receiver Cedarian Lamb hailing from the same school, it could be said that Foster prospects are somewhat under-recruited. Regardless of whether or not the Rams or Huskies offer, Young should stay in-line for more FBS offers as spring rolls on.
