Childs takes in Houston, more visits to come

Running back Rennie Childs took his second official visit of the recruiting process, but he did not go far.
The Cypress Ridge standout has made a habit of turning heads in Houston, Texas over the years, and has attracted interest from all across the country. Offers have arrived from Colorado State, Boise State, Houston, Utah State, Louisiana-Lafayette, UTSA, Texas State, and Rice over the course of the recruiting process, and has already taken on official visit to Colorado State. On Friday the standout running back took the chance to get a closer look at the University of Houston.

"It went real good," Childs said of the Houston visit. "I'm already familiar with the coaches. I already met them all when I went to the camp and I've already seen the school because I went to their junior day. It went well I had fun. I ate a lot. I'm feeling good."
Childs was hosted on his visit by receiver Larry McDuffey and admits the food and fun at Dave and Busters was the highlight of the trip. However, it was much more that left a big impression on his mind.
"I went out there and academic I know I would be set for my future," Childs said." Going there from being in Houston I'll have a lot of connections and everything so that plays a big factor. The coaches just seemed real cool. I look at them as father figures. I feel I could go to them if I have any problems or anything. That plays a big factor. They left a very high impression on me for when I make my decision."
Next up for Childs are two January visits. He plans to head to Utah State (January 11) and Boise State (January 25).
At this point he is not naming a favorite, but he does have four at the top of his list.
"Actually the top four which are the four visits I have," Childs said. "As I take my visits and compare them all then I'll make my decision."
What does he like about each of the programs he is considering?
"They're outstanding programs, great education, every single coach at every single coach are outstanding. They are fun and real cool," Childs said.
"First Colorado State, the reason why they're one of my top choices is they have coach McElwain from Alabama. He's changing up the program to run first. I can get a great education there. It's beautiful there with the mountains and everything. The coaches, they're real straight up and cool. We could be like best friends and stuff.
"U of H, they're at home, great connections job-wise, real cool people, everyone is laid back and fun. I really get along with them.
"Boise, you already know the blue turf. All the coaches are cool. They have an outstanding program. They had Doug Martin come out of there. They have running backs come out of there who get drafted and everything. It's outstanding educational-wise and I have a chance to go in there and make an impact. I could do that at every single program.
"Utah State just won their bowl game. They're outstanding getting running backs drafted like every single year for the past two or three years. Their coaches are really cool."
