Chewins still considering options

Cole Chewins of Clarkston, Mich., has been committed to Miami (Ohio) since June, but a recent opportunity at Michigan State has given the senior something to think about.
"I'm still trying to figure everything out," Chewins said. "Nothing has changed really. I am considering it."

Miami (Ohio) sees the 6-foot-7, 240-pound Chewins as a tight end in their offense, and his interest in the Redhawks has not waned since his summer commitment. He took his official visit to Oxford on Dec. 5.
"I have been there so many times, it was just another chance to see what it is like there," Chewins said.
Two unique aspects about the Michigan State opportunity is the Spartans are offering him as a grayshirt, and they also project him to offensive tackle.
"I am definitely honored by the program and the staff to have them think of me as a player that could play for their football team and be a part of their program. I understand because of my height, that is the typical build for offensive tackle in college. I was definitely fine with it."
Chewins has not scheduled an official visit with Michigan State. He did receive a visit from them earlier this month.
"Coach (Mark) Dantonio actually visited my basketball game the day recruiting opened back up," Chewins said. "Then, we've been talking over the phone."
Michigan State let Chewins know about the grayshirt offer late in December. With National Signing Day less than two weeks away, he continues to mull both options.
"It's taken so long just because it is a big decision," Chewins said.
Chewins did play both tight end and offensive tackle as a senior. He is currently playing center for Clarkston's basketball team.
