Cheney backs off pledge to Alabama

Rashad Cheney has quietly taken a few visits this fall.

The defensive lineman out of Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove entered the season committed to Alabama, but visited Florida State last weekend and Penn State earlier in the season.

He has decided to re-open his recruitment and back off his pledge to the Crimson Tide.

"I have been thinking about this the last week or so and now is just the right time to re-open my recruitment" said Cheney. "Alabama is bringing in a lot of defensive linemen in this class and it may not be the best fit for me. It just didn't work out with Alabama, so I am now open so I can sign in December and enroll early somewhere."

An Alabama rival, Auburn, will have Cheney on their campus this weekend. Florida, Minnesota and Ole Miss among others have called to check in on him recently.

No official visits are scheduled at this time.
