Four-star LaGrange (Ga.) running back
Skyler
Thornton (6-0, 195, 4.45) says the recruiting process has become easier with
so many options.
"It feels great to have so many people thinking that
highly of you," he said. "I know I'm going to have my pick of the best school
for me. Now I've just got to look at them and find out what the best situation
is. I don't think that will be too difficult."
The home state Georgia Bulldogs were the most recent
school to offer, giving him the good word from all of the top programs on his
list.
"I was glad when they did," he said. "They're definitely
in there."
Who else is in prime contention for Thornton's services?
"Florida, UGA and Auburn are the main three right now,"
he said. "I really like all of them. They've all got certain things that really stand out. I've got about seven on my list though. I'm
also looking at Maryland, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky... maybe a couple of others."
He has offers from all of those schools, plus Georgia
Tech, Vanderbilt, East Carolina, Wake Forest and North Carolina.
Thornton, who rushed for 1,592 yards and 21 touchdowns
as a junior in helping lead LaGrange to a Class 3A state championship, said he's
put recruiting on the back shelf temporarily to concentrate on a big senior
season.
"It makes me feel good that people think I'm one of the
best running backs in Georgia and the nation," he said, "but I know that you
can't sit back and rest on that. I still have one more year to accomplish
things, so I've got to keep working, striving to be the best. If I do that, I
know that it will get me where I want to go."
