Change at the top for Cornell

One of the nation's top linebacker prospects, La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat's Jonathan Cornell was planning to visit Arizona State this past weekend but canceled the trip. The athlete also said one of his former leaders is now down a notch or two on his list.
Cornell, 6-2, 210 pounds had earlier visited Mississippi and was expected to take his second official visit this past weekend.

"I was going to visit ASU but the more I thought about it, I just didn't see myself at ASU so I didn't want to waste their time or money. I guess I could have just taken the visit for the fun of it but that's not really how I am. I had some other things going on at home anyway so I just relaxed and I'll the rest of my trips in January."
From way back in the spring, Cornell has told us multiple times that USC and UCLA were his top two but there appears to be a chance at the top of his board now.
"I'm not really looking at UCLA any more," Cornell said. "It's a lot of things, too many to go in to but I think it's a mutual thing because they haven't really been recruiting that hard lately and I've been looking more at other schools as well. I would say USC and Oregon are my top two right now and I'm going to be visiting both in January although I haven't set either date yet.
"USC wanted me to visit this weekend but we have our football banquet so I won't be taking any trips this weekend. As for home visits, Coach Nielsen at Mississippi has come in and for USC, Coach Norton came over as well. I think Oregon will be coming over next week sometime. Right now, my plan is to take visits to those two schools in January, probably the first two weekends and then make my decision following my last visit."
