Central Valley sleeper is impressive

Offensive tackle Joel Turrubiates (6-7.5, 350, 5.3) from Bakersfield, Calif., is a prospect on size and potential alone.
"Joel played his first down of organized football as a junior," Bakersfield coach Paul Golla said. "In the beginning of the year he was tentative but by the end of he really started to get aggressive. He was able to track linebackers by the end of the season.

"Joel is still very raw and he's still going to be a project even after he leaves here, but you can't teach size and athleticism," Golla said. "He's a monster.
"Joel is very flexible and he has great hips," Golla said. "This guy can go down to his heels on his squat.
"Joel has all the tools to be a great one," Golla said. "He only needs experience.
"Every school that has come by the school are amazed by Joel," Golla said. "Their jaws drop watching him work out.
"I'm pretty sure Joel is going to get a lot of attention this spring," Golla said. "Fresno State, UCLA and Michigan have already shown some interest in him.
Bakersfield doesn't measure the bench press. They use the incline press instead and Turrubiates inclines 270, power cleans 270, dead lifts 510 and squats 535.
That is a pretty impressive squat when you consider he takes it down to the heels.
Turrubiates plays for a school that has sent quite a few offensive linemen to the D-I level. It is going to be interesting to follow his recruitment this season because as Golla said, "You can't teach size and athleticism."
