Central Cali athlete gets first offer

Athlete prospect Phillip Thomas (6-0, 185, 4.5) from Bakersfield, Calif., is one of those players who have tremendous versatility. Last season for Bakersfield, he lined up at quarterback, wide receiver and safety. The talented athlete already has his first offer on the table.
Thomas earned first-team all-league, first-team all-area and second-team all-state as a junior after accruing for over 1,500 yards of total offense while accounting for 23 touchdowns as a quarterback and wide receiver.

On the defensive side of the ball, Thomas racked up 80 tackles and had six picks his junior season, two of which he returned for a touchdown.
Thomas started his junior season as a wide receiver and when the quarterback went down with an injury, all he did was go 9-0 as the starting field general while leading Bakersfield to the Central Section Division I CIF Championship.
This highly skilled athlete rarely comes off the field. Not only did he end the season as the starting quarterback, but he also started at free safety and returns punts. He gets his water during the kickoff team one of the few times, Thomas is off the field.
According Bakersfield coach Paul Golla, Fresno State is the first team out of the box with an offer. Washington State could be the next team to offer Thomas a scholarship.
USC is also showing interest in Thomas and has invited him to their junior day and camp.
"Phillip is as good as they come," Golla said. "There is something special about the way he does things. He's one of those kids that watch and say oh my gosh."
"Phillip is one those guys who looks so smooth running the that it appears that he's hardly moving, but he's blowing by people," Golla said. "The opposition can't help but take bad angles on him and watching them try to tackle him is something to see."
"You can't coach what Phillip has and what he has is pretty good," Golla said. "He's big time."
