Position: Defensive back
Size and speed: 6-foot-0, 195 pounds. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds.
Honors: All-region, all-conference
Statistics: Thatch had 90 tackles and intercepted nine passes as a junior. He returned one interception for a score and had two sacks.
Favorite schools: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Clemson, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest.
Skinny: Thatch is one of the top players in the state of North Carolina this year and already has offers from three of his favorites.
“I was offered by Al Groh when I visited Virginia on Feb. 15 and I just got a call the other day from Lou Holtz and he offered me,” said Thatch. “North Carolina is the only other school that has offered.”
Thatch has the speed (track athlete who runs an 11.0-second 100 meter) to play cornerback in college, but he prefers playing the middle.
“I like playing free safety the best,” he said. “I just love being able to roam around the field and make plays. I want to be a free safety in college.”
The talented safety is unsure of his camp destinations this summer, but he knows when he wants to decide on a school.
“I would like to make my decision before my senior season.”
Thatch has two very talented teammates, running back Jamal Edwards and defensive tackle Demario Pressley, and he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the trio playing for the same college.
“We all think it would be cool to go to the same school,” he said. “We’re not a package deal or anything, but we do talk a lot about going to school together.”
