Cats still strong with local WR

Lexington (Ky.) Catholic two-sport standout Wes Caldwell is sitting on three Division I-A scholarship offers for football and is hoping to being setting up official visits in the coming weeks.
"I don't have any new scholarship offers," the 6-foot, 164-pound wide receiver said. "We've been talking about trying to plan visits."

Caldwell has football offers from Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State and Troy.
Also a Division I baseball recruit, Caldwell has seen his attention in that sport increase.
"Yesterday was the first day baseball coaches were allowed to call," Caldwell said. "So I heard from Xavier and Middle Tennessee. Kentucky has been recruiting me since I was a freshman, so I heard from them, too."
In terms of a school of choice, the local Wildcats are looking good at the moment. He spoke about Kentucky's football program.
"They are definitely way up there," Caldwell said. "The fact is that I love the coaches. Coach Joker Phillips is a great guy. It would be a good opportunity for me to get in there and learn the system and play early."
He's also impressed by the Wildcats' baseball program, which won the SEC East championship this year under coach John Cohen.
"They have great players and have always had great players," Caldwell said. "They just needed the right coach to come in and put it all together. From what we saw last year, they got him."
Phillips and Mike Archer are recruiting Caldwell for the Wildcats for football.
Middle Tennessee State also has caught Caldwell's eye.
"They are a great bunch of guys," Caldwell said. "My dad played football (at Florida State) with the head coach Rick Stockstill. I've been down to the campus before and it looked like a nice campus.
"I'm looking forward to going down there for a visit and checking them out."
Larry Kirksey is recruiting Caldwell for the Blue Raiders.
Troy rounds out the three schools that have offered Caldwell.
"The coaches at Troy are amazing," he said. "They run an offense that is a lot like the one we run at Lexington Catholic. The chance to play early is there, too.
"We went down there for a 7-on-7 tournament and looked at the campus and it was nice. I liked it."
Caldwell doesn't plan to wait until Signing Day for football to make his pick.
"I'm hoping to make an early decision," he said. "I want to be careful and don't want to make a mistake and make it too quick, though."
Caldwell caught 64 passes for 1,191 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2005.
