Junior to Watch: Gabe Wallace
School: Fort Campbell, Ky.
Position: Inside Linebacker/Fullback
Size and speed: Wallace is 6-foot-1, weighs 225 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds.
Statistics: As a junior, he recorded 94 tackles at linebacker. He also had almost 500 yards rushing as a fullback.
Honors: Was selected honorable mention all-state, All-Western Kentucky Conference and All-Area as a junior.
Favorite Schools: Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Tennessee, Memphis.
Skinny: Opponents of Fort Campbell found the going tough against the Falcons’ defense, thanks in large part to the 1-2 punch of middle linebacker Gabe Wallace and free safety Marcus McClinton.
While McClinton has had the higher profile of the two, many scouts are beginning to take a longer look at Wallace.
“People like what they see,” said Fort Campbell coach Shawn Berner. “He’s the prototype middle linebacker. You take one look at him and it’s like, ‘Wow.’ He’s a powerfully built kid who loves the weightroom. He benches 300, squats 465 and dead lifts about 500.
“On the field, they see a guy who loves contact. He’s a real hitter, great against the run and decent in pass coverage, too.”
Wallace has received early interest from Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Tennessee, Clemson and Memphis, among others.
“I think his stock will rise quite a bit between now and the end of next season,” Berner said. “A lot of coaches say they want to keep a close eye on him and see how he continues to develop.”
