Cats, Cards, Cavs pursue big WR

Three-star Louisville (Ky.) Fern Creek wide receiver Mario Urrutia was one of the first players in the Bluegrass State to give a verbal this year, casting his lot with the home state Wildcats in March.
But a lot has developed since that time, and Urrutia (6-5, 195, 4.6) now considers himself “open” between three schools.

“Things are pretty much even between Kentucky, Louisville and Virginia,” he said. “UK was the first to offer me early, so I kind of jumped at that. When some other big schools offered, I thought I should take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and at least check out all my options.
“I’m going to visit Virginia on Nov. 28 (the weekend of the Virginia Tech game), UofL the first weekend of December (5th) and Kentucky on the second weekend of December (12th).”
Asked if he had any other schools he may visit, Urrutia said “I’m kind of debating West Virginia and Nebraska. But I kind of doubt it right now. It’s pretty much those first three schools.”
Urrutia offered his thoughts on each of his co-leaders:
“I like Virginia’s style and the way they’re coming up in the ACC. They tell me I could be a big part of their offense, that they’ll put the ball in my hands a lot. I like that. They’ve also got some real good academics there.
“UofL is close to home, and they pass it a lot, too. They say they’re going to throw it about 80 percent of the time. Like I said, that’s the kind of offense I want to play in. I like their coaches, and I know a few of their players.
“I’ve liked everything about UK. It’s a good school. I like coach Phillips and the way he’s recruited me. He hasn’t put any pressure on me or anything when I said I was going to keep taking some visits. He says they’ll be there all the way. That’s cool.”
As a junior, Urrutia caught 65 passes for 1,075 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s had more than 50 catches and 1,000 yards this season with 15 touchdowns.
