Carpenter to be a Sun Devil

Quarterback Rudy Carpenter (6-3, 190, 4.7) from Westlake, Calif., has decided to cast his lot with the Sun Devils of ASU. It came down to a two-horse race between ASU and hard a hard late charging UCLA. In the end it was the consistent recruitment by ASU that won the day.
“I chose ASU because their coaches recruited me the hardest,” Carpenter said. “Because ASU recruited me the hardest I was able to develop relationships with the coaches and felt the most comfortable with them.”

“I liked how everything was at one place at Arizona State,” Carpenter said. “The study hall, the locker room and the stadium that we play in is right there on campus.”
“I called coach (Dirk) Koetter earlier today and told that I that I wanted to be a Sun Devil,” Carpenter said. “It came down to ASU and UCLA.”
“The difference was the comfort level between me and ASU,” Carpenter said. “I’m relieved that is over.”
In an earlier interview with Rivals.com Scott Carpenter relayed to us this tidbit of information.
“When we asked Coach Koetter what he likes most about Rudy,” Scott Carpenter said. “He answered 14-0.”
Now that was an intelligent answer.
On any level it is hard to go undefeated, so many things can happen, but Carpenter showed a competitive fire you love to see in your quarterback.
Carpenter threw for 2,705 yards and 35 touchdowns against only six interceptions while helping Westlake to the Southern Section CIF Division IV championship. He can also make plays with his feet rushing for 554 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Carpenter and his mates also beat CIF Division II Champs Newhall (Calif.) Hart and CIF Division III Champs Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame during their championship season.
In Carpenter the Sun Devils get a quarterback who not knows how to win, but loves to win and won’t take losing.
ASU wins the services of Carpenter in a tough Pac10 battle over UCLA.
