Carolina OG has a leader

Offensive guard Brian Merrifield has scheduled a handful of summer camps. The 6-foot-4, 272-pounder out of Davidson (N.C.) North Mecklenburg plans to head to schools in the ACC and Big Ten.
"I've signed up for a few including North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson and Penn State, all in June," he said. "I don't have any offers yet, but most of those schools are saying they want me to come to camp and then they'll talk about it from there."

With two brothers at North Carolina State, Merrifield is favoring the Wolfpack.
"They do kind of have an advantage since my brother David goes there and Peter is heading up in the fall," he said. "I'm pretty close with my brothers, but I've got to see all the schools before deciding."
Still leaving himself open, Merrifield discussed what he wants in a college.
"I want to play at a school that has some good prestige and a well-known coach," he said. "Playing time is important too and then definitely academics. I'm thinking about going into business. I'd also prefer to not go too far away, but that's not that big of a deal."
Last season the Tar Heel State prospect earned first team all-conference honors as a junior.
