Carolina DT hearing from two

Union (S.C.) defensive tackle Devon Thompson is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, but a couple of programs, one from the SEC and one from the Sun Belt, are keeping in touch on a regular basis.
"Things are going pretty good (with regards to recruiting)," Thompson said. "I haven't taken any unofficial visits or anything like that. But I have been keeping in touch with coaches.

"I've been hearing mostly from coach Tyrone Nix from South Carolina and also from coach Rick Stockstill from Middle Tennessee State and everybody on the staff up there. They send me handwritten letters almost every day."
Both the Gamecocks and the Blue Raiders have told the 6-foot-1, 276-pounder that they plan to scout him this season.
"Mostly they've been saying they will watch me on this upcoming season," Thompson said. "They haven't mentioned anything to me about offering me."
The Gamecocks currently are the favorites for Thompson.
"Right now, I'd probably say South Carolina is at the top of the list," he said. "I went up there for camp and on an unofficial visit I like the coaching and everything I saw on campus.
"I'm planning on going to a few games and taking an official visit once school starts so I can stay a few nights and get a feel for the school."
Middle Tennessee State also is intriguing.
"Everything I've seen from them, they seem like a nice school a place I can go
Clemson also continues to recruit Thompson.
"I'm thinking about making an unofficial to South Carolina or Clemson," he said. "I'm getting letters from Clemson. But haven't gotten any text messages or anything like that."
This season, he hopes to improve his overall game.
"I just want to go back to the basics," he said. "I just want to become a better overall player."
Thompson is the No. 23 overall prospect in the state of South Carolina in the Class of 2007. He had 65 tackles (15 for loss) as a junior.
