Carolina DB visits two schools

One Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford defensive back already holds three offers. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder visited two of the schools this past weekend on unofficial visits.
"I went to Kentucky on Friday and Louisville on Saturday," Northern Guilford cornerback James Scales said. "I got down to Kentucky and met with my recruiting coordinator. He welcomed me and was glad I was able to come for the visit. I met with my position coach and then they watched my highlight tape. They talked about how they could see me in that scheme and how they think I'd be a nickel back and could get early playing time. I liked that.

"I'm very high on Kentucky. They were the first school to offer me and the defensive back coach is high on me. I'm also very impressed with the SEC. That gives you a chance to play against national championships."
One other part of Kentucky stuck out to Scales.
"Their indoor facilities are very nice and they have one of the biggest stadiums I've seen," he said. "It holds about 70,000 people. I could really see myself playing there for four years. I thought the coaching staff was great too. I'm high on them and Coach Brooks."
On Saturday, Scales made the trip over to Louisville.
"I went there for a junior day and it was great," he said. "When we were driving through town, we saw the sports facilities and they are state of the art, wow. I got to talk to Coach Kragthorpe and it was great talking to him. He seems really down-to-earth and somebody I could see myself playing for, for four years.
"I also liked the facilities. They are great and state of the art. The training room was awesome and they have one of the biggest indoor facilities I've seen. I also saw the stadium and it seats 60,000 people and they said they are adding on about 15,000."
Currently the Carolina prospect holds three offers from Louisville, Kentucky and Duke. Is anyone else close to offering?
"I'm waiting on Maryland to offer soon," he said. "I'm also hearing from Georgia Tech, Colorado and North Carolina."
Scales maintains no favorites, but did grow up a fan of one college.
"I grew up a big fan of North Carolina," he said. "I like the tradition of the school and they have a great basketball program. Their football has started to pick up. When I was 13 I had a great experience there. I caught a pass in the endzone from one of their former quarterbacks. That really sparked my interest in them."
Scales went on to discuss what he's looking for in a school.
"I'm looking for great facilities and great coaches," he said. "I want somewhere that is welcoming to me and is down-to-earth. I also want somewhere I can play early. I'm looking at my major too, journalism. Location is a factor as well. I want to go maybe six hours away from home. Finally, I want a great atmosphere."
Scales posted 80 tackles, three interceptions and two sacks on his way to honorable mention all-metro and all-area as a junior.
