Carlson ready to kick it at Army Bowl
Right about the time Daniel Carlson received his U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey on Tuesday, Auburn hired Gus Malzahn as coach.

The text messages started streaming to Carlson's phone and since the news just happened, the Colorado Springs (Colo.) Classical Academy kicker, who committed to the Tigers in July, had not formed a complete opinion.
So far, Carlson thinks it's a good move; he hopes special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Jay Boulware stays on staff and for now his commitment to Auburn stands.
"I just got a couple texts and I'm sure I'll be calling my coaches to figure out what exactly is going on with that," Carlson said. "We'll see from there but it's good news and hopefully it will all work out.
"I'll figure out what other changes they'll be making after this and I'll talk to the coaches and see what they think … He was one of the coaches I thought would be a good fit.
Some other programs had reached out to Carlson right after Auburn fired coach Gene Chizik, but he hasn't shown a great deal of interest in talking with any other coaches.
Until he figures out exactly what's going on with the new coaching staff, Carlson wants to stay patient.
"A couple schools have talked to me, but right now until I figure out more about Auburn there's no need for me to start that yet," Carlson said.
One place Carlson will be going in a few weeks is San Antonio, and the three-star kicker is excited for the opportunity.
Playing in the Alamodome is a big deal to Carlson, rated as the fourth-best kicker in the 2013 class by Rivals.com, and spending time around a bunch of other top-notch prospects is going to be exciting.
Carlson compared the atmosphere in San Antonio and playing in such a big environment to a college setting.
"It will be my first experience in front of a crowd that big and it's obviously televised, so that will be really unique and special," Carlson said.
"It's big pressure but that's what it will be like in college. I'm looking forward to hanging out with the troops and learning what they do, getting some more insight on that, and then hanging out with the top players in the country. It will definitely be a great experience."
