Carlson looking to make impact in Texas

Four months ago, Nico Carlson landed on Katy (Texas) Taylor High School's doorstep after moving in from Virginia.
Let's just say he's made an impact. He came in at the end of football season but projects as the school's starting defensive tackle. If his wrestling skills translate to the football field, Katy Taylor has the defensive anchor they are looking for.

The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Carlson is 39-0 entering next week's Class 5A state wrestling tournament and is the favorite to take gold in the heavyweight division.
"I've always wrestled growing up and have had success after the move," he said. "My family has been in the military and now we are here in Houston. What a great place to move to challenge myself in football."
Prior to the move, Carlson was receiving interest from the likes of Virginia, Duke, Miami and Pittsburg, but will spark interest from Big 12 schools with his play in spring practice.
"He's a little unknown in football just because no one has seen him play," coach Flint Risien. "He passes the eye test and is tremendously physical. We will know more in weeks to come."
At his size and with potential gold hanging from his neck from wrestling, he will be hard to miss.
Katy Taylor has two more prospects in Trent Guiberteau and Keba Agostinho looking to impress this spring.
