Cards score big in Ohio

Talk about starting your recruiting season with a bang. The Louisville Cardinals have landed a commitment from arguably the top tight end prospect in the state of Ohio.
Cincinnati (Ohio) Glen Este tight end Zachary Meagher said he called the Louisville coaching staff today and let them know that he's officially a Cardinal. He picked the Cards over offers from Duke, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma and Miami of Ohio.

"I feel like it's the perfect situation for me," Meagher said. "They have two to three tight ends on campus, and one of them is going to be an offensive tackle by the time I get there. I could definitely go there and contribute early. I love the campus, and like how it's close and yet far away from home."
Meagher, who is 6-foot-3 and 248 pounds, is a serious candidate to be ranked as one of the top 15-20 players in the state of Ohio when Rivals.com releases its state rankings next week. He said when he looked at all of his options, the Louisville situation was just the best in his mind.
"Many people consider them an up-and-coming program still, but they're not in my mind," Meagher said. "I look at them as a really solid team. They're going to the Big East and going to get it done. I'm going to go help them win."
Meagher was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Oklahoma this weekend and was also set up to camp at Ohio State. He said is no longer going to make those trips.
"I'm done," he said. "I'm not going to go. I told coach (Mike) Cassity, and he was really excited about the news. He said that I was their first commitment."
And a major commitment it was.
As a junior, Meagher caught 17 passes for 386 yards and four touchdowns as tight end, the position he is expected to play in college. He runs a 4.7-second forty-yard dash, benches 300 pounds, squats 520 pounds, and cleans 240 pounds.
