Canty will see more attention soon

One of the most impressive prospects on-the-hoof from this past week's LSU football camp did not actually work out. Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandvile defensive end Deldrick Canty was there to take in the atmosphere and visit with the coaches.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound junior-to-be is not a well-known name in recruiting circles since he did not have a chance to play football this year. However, he will garner plenty of interest in time.

"I was at Scotlandville this year but I wasn't able to play at all since I transferred," Canty said. "I started on varsity my freshman year at (Baton Rouge) Capitol High so it was tough not playing this year. It was a learning process though. I learned a lot.
"I was on the track every day and I lifted weights every day. I made sure I stayed in shape."
Though he only has a freshman year of high school football under his belt Canty is still gaining attention from multiple programs.
"Schools still know about me after I transferred," he said. "I'm hearing from LSU, La Tech and Arkansas the most. Those are the main ones right now.
"I'm going to the LSU camp in July. I might go to Alabama too."
Canty had the opportunity to meet with the LSU coaches when he made the short trip to take in camp.
"They were telling me to stay in shape and that they're going to be watching me this year," he said. "They said that I'm going to be one of the top players in 2014."
Canty says he grew up following the hometown team but admits he has interest in other schools as well.
"I grew up a fan of LSU," he said. "I'm hoping to hear from other schools too though. I wouldn't mind hearing from Alabama and Baylor."
