Cantu focusing in on two

The next scholarship offer may shift the recruiting process for Southlake (Texas) Carroll receiver Blake Cantu.
After a solid spring and junior season, Cantu added scholarship offers from schools such as Colorado State, New Mexico State, Northwestern, North Texas, and Utah. Oregon is one school that has yet to offer, but could be close and also could impact his final list of schools.

"I'm waiting back to hear from them," Cantu said. "They came to practice and watched my film. They needed to see my transcript since they didn't have one on me. If that happens, and I get the official offer from Oregon, then I'm narrowing it down to them and Northwestern."
Cantu says that his possible final schools are high on his list for several reasons.
"Northwestern offers a great education and they run a spread offense, which I've been in my whole life," Cantu said. "I'm really comfortable with the coaches and have gotten to know them. When I went to L.D. Bell, Joe Mauro was my quarterback. It just feels comfortable.
"Oregon it's the same thing. They throw the football and I've always liked Oregon. The coaches say they're losing a lot of receivers, so I'd have a shot to play early. They're looking for a slot receiver that's reliable, has good hands, and they said that I could come in early."
From here, the 6-foot, 191-pound Cantu says he plans to visit both schools unofficially this summer. After that, he'd like to have a pre-season decision.
"I want to check them out so I can get to know the coaches more and then do what feels right," he said. "I'm trying to make a decision before the season starts. It will probably be this summer sometime. I'm tired of stressing out about it and would like to have it over with before the season."
