Can anybody catch Miami
Four-star super star defensive back Lovon Ponder has some of the nation’s best teams chasing after him for his commitment. And after a somewhat slow month of December, things are about to heat up for the 6-foot-1, 190-pound four-star selection.
“I’m going to be busy this month,” Ponder, ranked as the nation’s No. 8 safety, said. “I’m going to visit Georgia this weekend, Oklahoma on January 23 and then Miami on January 30. I’ve already been to N.C. State, and they’re still in it some, too.”

Ponder admits that Miami leads for his commitment at this point, though.
“I really like what’s going on over there, and it’s really close to home,” he said. “I was being recruited by Mark Stoops, but he’s now gone to Arizona. I’m getting used to the new coaches recruiting me, and they seem cool, but coach Stoops and I had a great relationship with each other, so it’s sad for me to see him go.”
A Miami commitment isn’t a done deal – especially with Georgia and Oklahoma looming.
“Georgia is a great team that always plays for the SEC championship,” he said. “I want to play for a winner, so that’s something that has me really excited. Plus, Oklahoma just played for the national championship. I love their aggressive, attacking style of defense. I would be a good fit out there also.”
Ponder said he’ll likely wait until singing day to announce his decision.
