Campbell wants to see Tigers and Aztecs

Austin (Texas) Westlake Tyler Campbell continues to pile up the yardage, but schools aren’t coming after him.
“Nothing new, still,” the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Campbell said. “Things are still the same. I have no other offers except Baylor and San Diego State.”

Some schools are starting to do a little inquiring on the academic status of the son of former Texas great, Earl Campbell.
“My coach has told me there are a lot of coaches have asked for transcripts and my SAT scores,” he said. “I scored a 910 on the test and I have a 3.10 grade point average. I’m qualified. The coaches have told me that I’m fine for what they need. But, my parents want me to do better. So, I’m going to take the test again. If you don’t get to a certain level there are some remedial classes you have to take in college before you get to your major classes. I’d rather not have to do that, so I want to improve it.”
Campbell still does not have any official visits lined up.
“I’m still planning on taking all of them after football season,” he said. “I do want to go catch some games, yet. We practice on Saturday, so I need to work around that. I would like to see San Diego State and Missouri play, so I’m looking at their schedules and finding when I can work it out to miss a Saturday practice.”
Campbell has helped lead Westlake to a strong start in district play.
“We are 3-0 in district games. We’re holding strong. We just need to keep it up. We lost a couple games earlier on the schedule, but those don’t really matter for getting to the playoffs.”
Friday night, Campbell erupted for nearly a school record, 268 yards.
“I had a good game, I thought,” the three-star rated Campbell said. “I was only 30 yards short of the school record for rushing yards in a game. Coach pulled me in the third quarter because we were ahead. He didn’t know I was that close to a record, but that’s fine.”
Despite the good performance, he still has room to improve according to his father.
“Each game we look at the film,” he said. “I thought I did good, but dad said I took some sweeps outside too far. He thought I had a chance to go if I kept it inside. So, I need to continue to work on the little things that will make me a better player in the long run.”
