Position: Running Back
Size and speed: Campbell is a 5-foot-11, 188-pound running back who has been clocked at 4.51 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Honors: Campbell was an all-district performer at running back as a junior.
Statistics: Campbell carried the ball for 1,291 yards and 15 touchdowns during his junior campaign.
Favorite Schools: While no schools have offered scholarships at this early stage in the game, Campbell is favoring the LSU Tigers. But it is a long time until signing day. With his father's career having been a memorable one at the University of Texas, don't count the Longhorns out. Texas A&M, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State and Boston College have also expressed early interest.
Skinny: Campbell's name and story is well known, especially in his hometown of Austin, Texas. Being the son of a legend in the football crazed state has put some pressure on the talented running back.
"There is a lot of pressure being Earl Campbell's son," the younger Campbell said. "Especially around Austin. So many people are expecting me to be like Earl Campbell because he accomplished so much in his career."
Tyler has learned to turn to his father for advice through the struggles over the years.
"My dad gives me advice. He tells me not to get caught up in what other people think I should be doing and that I should just go out and give it my best shot."
That best shot was given during his first season on Westlake's varsity squad.
"There was a lot of pressure coming into my first season on the varsity last year. People would tackle me and then tell me that I was nothing like my father. But I just used that for motivation to come back and do better the next time. It's not something to get mad about. I'm proud that he is my father. And I'm proud of what he was able to accomplish on the field over his career."
Campbell's style of running the ball is very similar to that of his father, the 1977 Heisman Trophy Award winner.
"I think my game is a power game just like his was. I've got that long legged stride like he did. And I don't look away from the contact."
