Campbell has found foe he cant beat

Austin (Texas) Westlake running back Tyler Campbell is certain of one thing as the football season opens up. There is nothing you can do to beat the heat.

"It is hot, man," the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Campbell said. "There is nothing you can do about it. We try to stay as cool as we can. But you can't beat it. Try all you want and it won't work. Our coach gives us all the breaks he can and still have a practice. But you're still just hot. We have started school now, so we can't practice in the mornings anymore."
Campbell is working hard on having a good season because he knows college recruiters will be watching him in just his second season of varsity action.
"We should have a good team this fall," he said. "We have a lot of new faces on the offensive line and on the defense as a whole. But, things are coming together. It will take time, but we should come along just fine by game time. We've got a couple scrimmages yet to go to gel, and things will work out."
Campbell, the No. 17 rated running back in America by Rivals.com, currently holds two scholarship offers.
"San Diego State and Baylor are the only two that have offered," he said. "I'm not sure what to think of Baylor right now. I'm interested in them, but I don't know much about them yet. They have all new coaches there. I am eager to see if they get things turned around. I just want to look into them this year and see how they progress."
Campbell's top teams include the Aztecs, Notre Dame, LSU, Missouri and Arizona.
"Those are the schools that have been recruiting me the most so far," he said. "Things will change some probably when the calls are staring on September 1."
Campbell, the son of former Texas Longhorn standout Earl Campbell, has some interest in the school his father won the Heisman Trophy at, but wants to make his own name.
"Texas is a school that is on my mind," he said. "No doubt about it. But, I know they are going after Adrian Peterson hard. He is obviously their top choice at running back. I'm not locked on following my dad. I want to go somewhere that people can love me for me and I'm not always Earl's son."
Don't look for a quick decision from Campbell.
"I think right now is the time for the guys who have been all-state for a couple years already," he said. "My decision will be later since I've only played one year of varsity football. Coaches are watching to see what kind of an athlete I can be. If I made a quick decision, it would be limiting my options. I want to see what all can come of the process."
