Calls coming out of the blue for juco OL

Highland (Kan.) Community College hasn’t exactly been the center of a recruiting hot bed in recent history. But coaches are starting to make a beeline to Highland to check out 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle Marcus Gordon. The former Memphis Westside star that signed with Arkansas State out of high school is now a hot commodity and is picking up more offers as the season wraps up.
“It’s starting to really get interesting,” Gordon said. “I’m getting all sorts of different calls now. I guess they can call you any time now. Nebraska just jumped up and called out of the blue late last week and offered me a scholarship. Utah State had offered me a scholarship, but I heard they had fired their coaches recently.

“Kansas offered me earlier in the summer, and I think Ole Miss and South Carolina are also pretty close to offering me, too.”
And for Gordon the attention is exactly what he wanted when he decided to attend school in Kansas.
“I didn’t really want to go to Arkansas State,” he said. “I felt like, well I don’t want to say I’m better, but I wanted to raise my level to become a higher level player. I looked at some schools in Mississippi, but I knew that Kansas jucos are the best in the country and I had heard about Highland.”
And the rest is history.
So what type of player is Gordon?
“I consider myself a quiet team leader,” he said. “I let my actions sort of speak for themselves. I’m a good pass blocker, we run a lot out of the two-point stance.”
Gordon can graduate in December and will have three years to play two seasons.
