Callinan juggling visits and playoffs

Junior wide receiver Charles Callinan of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep has been tied up with his own season for the majority of the fall, but recently found the time to make his way to South Bend to check out Notre Dame in action. A few other visits are also in the works for the winter.
"Recruiting is going good," said Callinan, who is 6-foot-4 and 200-pounds. "I took a visit to Notre Dame and then I was planning on visiting Michigan State this weekend, but I wasn't able to make it out there."

The victory over Navy was Callinan's first opportunity to check out Notre Dame in person.
"It was really nice," he said. "The campus was beautiful and the facilities were great. The game was a blowout, but was still really fun."
Already holding an early offer from Rutgers, interest continues to mount for the talented receiver.
"I'm probably getting the most interest from Rutgers, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, West Virginia, Boston College and South Carolina," said Callinan, who was asked if he had any future visits planned. "Not until after the season, but then I plan on visiting Michigan State and Wisconsin. Maybe a few others."
The rest of his visits will have to wait, as Callinan and his teammates prepare for the playoffs.
"We started 0-2 and then won five straight, but last week we lost," said Callinan. "Our playoffs start this week so we're gonna give it a run. Personally I don't know my stats, but I think I have around 23 catches for like 350 yards."
Callinan has noticed a marked improvement in his game since his sophomore season.
"My speed definitely improved greatly," said Callinan. "I put on some muscle and my whole approach towards the game is different. I feel more comfortable in tough situations and I've learned how to read defenses and study film."
