California WR likes visit

BYU played host to one of the West Coast’s top prospects over the weekend. That recruit saw quite a show as the Cougars dismantled Air Force 66-33.
Bakersfield, Calif. wide receiver Blake Mackey was duly impressed with the Cougars and is a big fan of the high-flying offense that was on display in Provo on Saturday.

“It’s a nice place,” Mackey, who was on his official visit to BYU, said. “I met the coaches and the players. I could see myself going to a place like BYU. I really like their offense. I like how they get the receivers really involved.”
The visit to BYU, according to Mackey, pulled the Cougars even with Mackey’s long-time favorite Arizona State.
“I’d say it’s pretty even between BYU and ASU. BYU’s a little new to me, so it’s still sinking in.”
Altogether, Mackey has narrowed his choices to six schools. Along with BYU and ASU are Washington, Colorado, Washington State and Fresno State.
He has scheduled official visits to Washington State for Nov. 2, to ASU for Dec. 7 and to Colorado for Dec. 14. He is planning on scheduling a visit to Washington for Nov. 30.
Fresno State had originally been slated for a Dec. 14 visit, but Mackey says he has been to Freson’s campus so many times that an official visit is unnecessary.
Mackey’s admiration for Arizona State goes back to his childhood years where he lived in Phoenix and Tempe for several years.
Mackey, who is 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, has 22 catches as a senior that he has turned into 430 yards and four touchdowns. Bakersfield is 6-0 this season and ranked No. 7 in the state.
