California LB heading to camp

Bakersfield (Calif.) Ridgeview linebacker Derrick Kernene is on the road again.
After looking good at the Los Angeles NIKE Camp, the 6-foot, 204-pound three-star inside linebacker said he's scheduled to attend camp this week at Colorado.

"I'll be going to Colorado's camp," he said. "Then I was thinking about going to Oregon, but right now it's just Colorado's camp. Lately, I've been talking to UC Davis, Arizona and Washington State. I'm excited to see what's going to happen when I'm at Colorado's camp."
Kernene had a big junior season totaling 127 tackles and five sacks to earn first-team all-league and all-area honors. Wolf Pack coach Mike Crews had some pretty high praise for his standout linebacker.
"He's the best linebacker I've seen in the last five years," Crews said. "He's a very good player and a definite Div I prospect. A lot of schools are on him right now."
Kernene said at this point his top teams likely would be Washington State, Oregon and USC if it showed more interest. He's working hard this summer at trying to improve his game.
"Teamwork is the biggest thing we need to work on, and I need to work on," he said.
"We had trouble last year and this year. We're still having trouble with it. We have a lot of individualism. They're all good, but they can't put it together as a team."
