"I just came down to feeling the best with the coaches and how they treated me," Down, who has 3.0 grade point average, said.
"The entire staff - every time I talked to them - treated me like I was their No. 1 recruit. That made me feel good about the situation and where I stand with them."
Down picked the Buffs over offers Texas A&M, Cal, San Diego State and Washington State. He was a huge get for the Buffs since they were wanting to fill a big need on the d-line.
"The coaches told me that I was one of the final guys that they're going to take," Down said. "It sounded like it was time for me to join the class and make it even better."
Down is currently a two-star player but after receiving early senior film of Down late last month, he is expected to make a solid climb in the October defensive rankings that are set to be released on Tuesday.
