California Desert Athlete draws interest

The Palm Springs area of the California desert is beginning to produce football talent. Over the last few years La Quinta and Palm Desert has done a nice job getting their prospects known and D-I scholies. It looks like Palm Springs high school is about to join the fray.
One prospect from Palm Springs high school is already getting serious recruiting attention is free safety/running back A.J. Scott (5-10, 200, 4.6).

According to Palm Springs assistant offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator Scott Saunders one Pac10 schools thinks that Scott is among the ten prospects in California.
“Every school in the Pac10 is showing interest in A.J.,” Saunders said. “Colorado has already sent him a handwritten letter.”
Scott is a standout on both sides of the ball. On offense, Scott rushed for 1,417 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was also a threat out of the backfield as a receiver latching onto 15 receptions for 325 yards and three more touchdowns through the air.
On defense, Scott racked up 90 tackles, was among the area’s leaders win picks with seven and had three sacks.
Scott’s junior season performance saw him selected all-state, all-CIF, all-county, all-area and all-league in 2003.
Though Scott is talented on both sides of the ball, he projects as a safety.
“A.J. has a work ethic second to none,” Saunders said. “He works just as hard off the field as he does on it.”
Scott carries a 3.0 GPA and is taking courses in preparation for the SAT that he will take in March.
Right he working out to impress at the Nike camps coming up in spring and at the moment he’s benching 185 pounds, 22 times.
“A.J. is very intelligent and has an advanced understanding of the game,” Saunders said. “He understands split coverage on the high school level, which gives you an idea of A.J.’s football IQ.”
Washington, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are all showing Scott early interest.
