California DE stays in state

Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty Union three-star defensive end Matt Akers has seen enough. After watching Fresno State thoroughly beat Kansas State this past weekend, the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder decided to go ahead and make a decision.
"Matt has committed to Fresno State," Akers' stepfather, Jim Rucks, said late last night in an e-mail to Rivals.com. "He's very excited about his decision. We all believe it's the perfect fit for him, and we're glad he's heading up there."

Akers, ranked as the nation's No. 27 weakside defensive end and the No. 96 player in California, also had scholarship offers from Colorado State, San Diego State, Nevada and was getting interest from Ole Miss, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
As a junior, Akers had 117 tackles and 15 sacks. This season he was more than on his way to bettering those numbers.
