California athlete just wants to play

In some ways, Sacramento Hiram Johnson’s Vincent Mays is not very picky. He plays running back and defensive back in high school but doesn’t care which position he gets assigned to in college.
“I like offense and defense,” the 5-11, 195-pound four-star recruit said. “With defense, it’s more about team chemistry and playing as a team. There’s nothing like that feeling.”

“With offense, you get the glory running the ball. I like that, too.”
Mays is the No. 12-ranked safety in the country by Rivals100.
He says he recently rearranged his list of college choices considerably since his last interview.
Tennessee, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon and San Diego State now top his list. All but the Volunteers have offered him a scholarship.
He has yet to schedule any official visits and declined to mention a favorite among his choices.
“I want to leave the door open a little bit for other people if they want to come in. I don’t want to tie myself down too much right now.”
