CaliFlorida Bowl: Coach talks about team

I had a chance to talk to Tony Collins who is in Torrance, Calif. as an assistant
coach for the Florida squad in this year's CaliFlorida Bowl. As a coach at Tallahassee

(Fla.) Lincoln, Collins has seen his share of the best of the best over the
years. Here are some notes from what T.C. has seen from this year's squad.
The Fastest: Safety
Pat Watkins (Lincoln) would
be close if he was healthy. WR Devin
Hester (Suncoast) has tons of speed and is probably the fastest ...
QB Gavin Dickey (Lincoln) is close, DB Terrell Walden
(Edison) is fast too.
Hardest Hitter: LB William
Beckford from Glades Central.
Best Moves: The wide receivers have some good moves. Ryan
Moore (Dr. Phillips, pictured) has the best at the wideout position, then James
White (Lincoln) and Santonio Holmes
(Glades Central). Everyone knows Dickey has plenty of moves.
Best Leaper:WR Devin Aromashodu
out of Miami Springs has big time springs.
Best Cover Guy: Well, Waldon is the best cover guy and Greg
Threat (Lincoln) is by far the most physical corner.
Best Athlete: Walden, he really caught me off guard with his talent
... He's legit.
Biggest Surprises: Waldon .... And, DE Kareem
Brown (Norland) is really, really good. The way he gets off the line
is amazing. It wasn't much of a surprise if you've seen him, but OL Davin
Joseph (Hallandale) by far ... He will be playing on Sunday in the future.
OL Terrell McGill (Norland)
surprised me too.
Who "wowed" You the Most? The ends Torrin
Charles (Northwestern) and Elvis
Dumervil (Jackson). Take your pick, those guys can fly.
Best Presence: Every one knows Gavin Dickey (pictured right). Everyone respects Gavin,
he's a natural leader and he gave us (Lincoln) two rings!
Team Leader: Dickey, everyone loves Gavin.
One player you wish you had on your Lincoln team? All our (Lincoln's)
DBs will sign D-1 and our juniors are some of the best around, but I'll still
take Terrell Waldon. Anyone would love Davin Joseph and I'll take those two
ends (Charles and Dumervil) also.
Best Pass Blocker: Davin Joseph by far ... Then McGill.
Best Run Blocker: Joseph again ... He's the real deal ... He's also
a heavyweight champ in wrestling in Florida.
Best Pass Rusher: Torrin Charles or Dummervil, take your pick, those
guys can go ... Charles led Florida in sacks and is as good as advertised.
Best Run Stopper: William Beckford ...He shuts down running plays.
Other news from around practice: OL Emmitt
Tatum (Jupiter) is still leaning towards Miami while Sooner fans will
be happy to know that Davin Joseph is still expected to leave the Sunshine State
for Oklahoma. Pittsburgh has risen on Santonio Holmes list after a successful
trip. Holmes also has a friend, Antonio Bryant, currently playing for the Panthers.
Coach Tony Collins comments on three Lincoln recruits:
Pat Watkins: Pat's top three are Florida, FSU and Georgia.
Gavin Dickey: Gavin will complete his visits with USC and Miami before making
a decision.
James White: White is set to visit USC, FSU and Miami, then he'll make his
decision.
I got a chance to talk to Greg Threat and James Jackson myself. Threat
mentioned he has three trips lined up at Clemson (Jan. 12), Miami (Jan. 19),
and Florida (Jan. 26) and will make his decision after the trips. LB Jackson
will not take any visits in January because he is preparing hard to take the
ACT and list Georgia Tech, USC and Middle Tennessee State as his top three.
