Cali WR staying close to home

San Lorenzo (Calif.) wide out Michael Calvin emerged at the NIKE Camp at Stanford as one of the premier athletes in the West region. After narrowing his choices to Oregon and Cal, the talented receiver has made his college choice.
Calvin6-2, 190 pounds was somewhat of a sleeper prior to the NIKE Camp at Stanford last May. In fact, his coach called us to get him in just a week before the camp and we really didn't know much about him.
Calvin had a huge camp running a camp best 4.50 in the 40, jumped 39 inches in the vertical and looked very good in the position and one on one drills. The offers soon came trickling in and Oregon and Cal emerged as the leaders. Where is Calvin headed?
"I committed to Cal," Calvin said. "I really liked both schools a lot but I just felt like Cal was the best fit for me. Location was a big reason for my decision. I'm probably only about 20 minutes from Berkeley and I've been up there watching games a number of times.
"My official visit to Cal isn't until December but like I said, I've been there several times before and just feel like it's a good fit for me. I like the coaches a lot, I like the offense and I think I'll be able to come in and make an impact there.
"I called Coach Tedford and left him a message and then while I was at basketball practice, Coach Ferigno called me and I talked to him and told him I was ready to commit. Oregon is a great school and I loved my visit there. The campus is nice and I loved the facilities but I just felt like Cal was the best place for me and I'm excited to be a Bear."
