Cali WR is headed to the MWC

Oxnard (Calif.) wide out Jamal Smith is one of the more under-rated players in the state this year. Smith was recently sent his first scholarship offer and after mulling things over, decided to give a 'soft' commitment.
Smith, 6-2, 170 pounds is a talented player who shows up well on film. He had a good junior season catching 31 passes for 594 yards and three touchdowns. Smith uses his size well and has very strong hands. He has excellent leaping ability, runs well after the catch and has a nice upside to him.

On the recruiting front, Smith landed his first offer from Utah and decided to jump on it.
"I haven't been to Utah yet but I like a lot about the school," Smith said. "They're always a top program and can compete with all the bigger programs. I like their coaching staff and their offense is a good fit for me. They run a lot of spread and use three and four receivers at a time so I know I'll have a lot of chances to make plays.
"I still need to visit there and I'm going to set up an official visit for early in the year. I'm still open to other schools though because I just want to make sure Utah is the best place for me. I'm going to camp with Washington at the end of the month and I was going to camp last weekend at Nevada and San Jose State but I hurt my foot.
"There are a lot of other schools contacting me including UCLA, Boise State, Oregon, Oregon State, Nevada, Wyoming, Washington State and some others. Like I said, I'm happy with Utah but just want to keep my options open to make sure I'm making the best decision for me."
