Cali sleeper looks the part

Prior to the start of the Mission Viejo (Calif.)- Vista (Calif.) game this past Friday, Diablo head coach Bob Johnson grabbed us and said, 'you need to check out our wide receiver Andy White, he's a big time player and no one knows about him.' Sure enough, White had a huge game and definitely looks the part of a legit Div I prospect.
White, 6-2, 190 pounds is one of the fastest players in the state. As a junior, he clocked a 10.7 in the 100m and was part of the Diablos 4X100m relay team that finished third at the state track meet a year ago with a 41.57 clocking, the fourth best all time in Orange County.

On the grid-iron, we actually thought of White as more of a defensive back than a receiver. This past summer, White was at the Elite 11 QB camp catching passes and his size and speed really stood out. He became a full time receiver at the beginning of the season and now looks like one of the bigger sleeper recruits in the state.
"Someone has to go on this kid, he's too good not to play big time Div I football," Johnson said before the game last Friday. "For starters, he's just a great kid with a great work ethic. Not only that, he has very good size, catches everything and is always the fastest player on the field in every game we play. He's explosive and can really stretch the field."
Right on cue, White showed why he's a Div I prospect with a big game against Vista. After a quiet first half that saw Mission with just a 7-0 lead, White took a short hitch on the Diablos opening drive of the second half and blew past the Vista defense for a 67 yard touchdown run. On Mission's next possession, he caught a slant, broke a tackle and scored on a 25 yard touchdown.
White finished the game with four catches for 112 yards and two scores. It was White's second 100 yard game of the season but Johnson said things are still quiet on the recruiting front.
"No one really knows about him right now," Johnson said. "I've been telling a few coaches about him but right now, he's really flying below the radar. I wouldn't be selling him so hard if I didn't think he could play, he can play at the next level no doubt about it. I think once the film gets out, a lot of the colleges are going to be all over him."
We'll try and catch up with White in the next week to get a recruiting update on him and see who, if anyone, is on him as well as where he would like to play his college ball.
